Twilight turns 30!
Since its humble beginnings in 1990, the market has evolved from the affectionately known ‘Noodle Markets’ to become a feast of local musical talent, international cuisines and games for the whole family.
“It’s amazing to think that Twilight Food Fair, or the Noodle Markets as many people know it, has been running for 30 years. I know a lot of locals remember coming to the very first one and it felt like only yesterday,” Mayor Jilly Gibson muses to North Shore Living.
One such local, Trish Koll, says she’s valued having an event that can be safely enjoyed by the young and old alike. In fact, it’s had her coming back for nearly all the 30 seasons.
“In the early days, it was the only place you could go with a baby or a toddler and feel relaxed and be able to unwind with a wine, without judgement and in a safe environment for the children,” she reminisces.
“Nowadays, we go with friends who have a young child and it continues to be a place where parents can relax with friends and enjoy themselves while their children remain occupied.”
In celebration of its 30 years, this year’s Friday night market has a jammed packed program of music and kids’ entertainment together with 10 delicious food stalls.
Authentic Turkish Gozleme; New Madras Cuisine; Brazilian Flame Barbeque; Oktoberfest Hut; Gelato Man; Figjam Creperie; Bamboo Story; Ola Lola; Ken-Chan Curry; and Street Sliders will be serving up enticing cuisine, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options available.
There will also be free children’s activities, such as face painting, circus tricks and sports games to entertain the young and the young at heart.
Throughout November, the Vicky Turner Band, Tequila Mockingbird, J & J Trio, The Moods and the Aston Martinis will provide a diverse musical offering for locals to sit back, relax and enjoy or get groovin’.
This year, there will be two special Twilight nights – the Christmas market and the anniversary celebration.
The Christmas Twilight will take place on 13 December and will offer an array of festive treats and entertainment, while the special anniversary edition will occur on 28 February.
“It’s wonderful that Council has created and continues to deliver an event that puts meaning into the word community year after year. That’s something worth celebrating. I’m looking forward to the 30th anniversary and hope the event continues to grow for many more years,” Mayor Gibson says.
The Twilight Food Fair will take place every Friday (weather permitting) throughout November until 6 March 2020, from 5:30pm – 9pm at North Sydney’s Civic Park.
