Picnic in the Park to enchant Brookie

The Brookvale instalment of Picnic in the Park is set for Saturday 26 October, offering locals a day of outdoor family fun.

The event follows on the success of the inaugural Mona Vale picnic, held in September, which saw 4,000 locals register their interest in attending.

“Our community told us that they would like to see more Council-run local events which bring people into local town areas,” Craig Thomas, communications officer at Northern Beaches Council explains.

This event is sure to be a great day out, particularly for young families, with stage acts, roving entertainment and fairy-themed activities.

These include free fairy and elf face painting, a storytelling corner and sustainable craft activities, such as bees-wax wrap-making and decorating re-useable bags.

The main stage event will keep with the enchanted theme, with the audience invited to join Tinkerbell and the dream fairies from Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream as they head off on a magical musical adventure.

The cheeky Mustardseed, excitable Moth, courageous Cobweb and sweet Peaseblossom must join Tinkerbell on a quest to Bubble Land to help her find her lost wings.

With the wealth of entertainment and activities, Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan says the day is sure to be a hit with small children and parents alike.

“We believe these community events are great in getting parents and kids out and about, having fun and supporting local businesses,” he says.

Locals are encouraged to join in the fun and come along dressed as their favourite mythical character, be that a fairy, elf, pirate, superhero or even a Jedi!

Should Picnic in the Park Brookvale prove as successful as its Mona Vale counterpart, Council has suggested it may run a third event, Picnic in the Park Frenchs Forest.

Pull together a basket of your favourite treats, pack your comfiest picnic rug and come on down to support this family-friendly, community-focused event.

Picnic in the Park will be held on Saturday 26 October 9.30am – 12pm at Brookvale Northern Park, behind Brookvale Oval. Entry is free.
