NOTHING BRINGS A COMMUNITY TOGETHER QUITE LIKE A TEAM
In our case, it’s the Mighty Bears.
The Mighty Bears, or the North Sydney District Rugby League Football Club (NSDRLFC) if you fancy their proper name, was founded in 1908. One of the code’s foundation clubs, NSDRLFC is a feeder club to the Sydney Roosters NRL team.
Fast-forward half a decade and, like most high-profile district rugby league teams in the 1950s, the team needed a base. And so, the Norths Leagues Club was born. Originally located in a residential property in Neutral Bay, our community quickly needed more. So, Norths (as we are now known) moved to our current site in Abbott Street, Cammeray, in 1964 and we haven’t looked back since.
Because after 60 years of operation, we have evolved beyond just being that base for the Mighty Bears – although our commitment to our team and the dedication of our team supporters remains unchanged. But we are now so much more to so many more.
Norths has grown into a meeting place, an entertainment destination, a trusted event space and a centre for leisure, fitness and recreation. And we welcome everyone, young (did we mention we have a dedicated kids room?) and old.
So whether you pop in to The Pantry for a classic chicken schnitty while the kids enjoy a play, something a bit lighter like a slice or a sandwich from The Café, or just fancy pulling up a stool at the main bar and ending the day with a boutique beer and a chat with a mate, Norths is home to more than just a footy club, but a whole community.
And we’re passionate about driving the growth of our local and wider community by giving back. Our sustainability efforts, volunteer programs, community partnerships and more help shape a positive future for our members and the broader community.
Although Norths may have changed dramatically over the years, we will always pay homage to our rich rugby league heritage as home of the Mighty Bears. And we’ll continue to celebrate all things sports, proudly hosting a variety of intra-club sporting and special interest groups consisting of over 2,500 members.
So get your team together, and come and join us.
