Be a friend for the elderly

Lifeline Northern Beaches is looking for volunteers to visit isolated people across 16 residential aged care facilities in Manly Warringah once a fortnight. Volunteers will be a part of The Community Visitors Scheme (CVS), a Federal Government initiative designed to foster connections between people living in aged care and those in their local community. You will provide company and companionship for these residents – listening to their stories and experiences, playing games, sharing cups of tea and forging genuine friendships. Take disabled youth on an adventure!

If you’re a young person who likes spending weekends doing adventurous activities such as dancing, canoeing, surfing, rock climbing, skateboarding, cycling or hiking, Two Shoes is looking for you! This new organisation is seeking bold and enthusiastic volunteers to join upcoming trips away and help provide young adults with disabilities the chance to participate in exciting activities often considered inaccessible. Trips are generally two nights over the weekend, however single day activities will also be scheduled. Day activities can run Wednesday and Friday evenings (2 – 4 hours) and Saturdays and Sundays (6 hours). Joeys, the stage before Cub Scouts, need new, excited and dedicated leaders to provide dynamic programs for girls and boys aged five to eight years old. You will be required to facilitate the development of each child in the Joey Scout Mob, through outdoors focused team activities. Volunteer Joeys leaders must promote activities in the local community and encourage Joey Scouts to transition into the Cub Scout Pack. Volunteers will be required to attend mob sessions Wednesday evenings from 5.30 – 6.30pm and some weekends. Full training will be provided, and Scouts NSW can arrange for a working with children and police check as well as reimburse most out of pocket expenses. Visit SEEK to apply.

 

Serve food to those in need
Street Mission
Balgowlah

Street Mission is seeking responsible and committed volunteers experienced in food preparation to manage and supervise the kitchen of its Balgowlah Community Café. The café runs on Saturday nights from 5.30 – 8pm and services homeless and disadvantaged persons from across the Northern Beaches. Volunteer supervisors are needed at least one Saturday evening per month, and will be responsible for meal planning, purchasing ingredients, assisting the other volunteers to cook and serve the meal, overseeing kitchen clean-up and socialising with the local community. Training will be provided from an experienced supervisor and groceries are fully reimbursed. Contact Street Mission via SEEK to apply.

 

Help run the Diggers Day Club

Over 55s are encouraged to offer their services and assist the Day Club with hosting activities such as group discussions, games and quizzes. You will assist serving morning tea and lunch to new members and will help to make them feel at ease. You will also facilitate conversation and connection between members. Volunteers are needed, currently, on Wednesdays 9am to 1pm, however will be required on Fridays instead in the future. A valid driver’s licence is required. Apply via SEEK.
